What is Agentic Process Mining?
Agentic Process Mining refers to process mining carried out by AI agents: instead of an analyst setting filters, comparing variants, and investigating deviations, an agent performs these steps on its own. It formulates questions to the process data, selects suitable analyses, tests hypotheses, and reports results with evidence. The process data stays the same – what is new is who drives the analysis.
Why does this matter?
Process mining initiatives rarely stall on technology but on analysis capacity: there are more processes and questions than people who can evaluate them. Agentic process mining scales analysis across all processes and makes process mining usable for business units without analysts of their own.
What does this look like in practice?
A controller asks: "Why did our lost early-payment discounts rise last quarter?" The agent filters the supplier invoices that missed the discount deadline, compares their paths with those paid on time, finds that 70% of the losses come from invoices with a subsequent cost-centre change, and delivers the case list with an estimate of the discount forgone.
Not to be confused with
Not to be confused with agent mining, where AI agents are the object of study whose behaviour is analysed with process mining methods. In agentic process mining the agent is the tool that performs the analysis. Nor with chatting to a dashboard, which answers individual questions, whereas the agent works through an analysis over several steps.
